The biggest mural in Accolade: Park Białystok II
The latest work created under the umbrella of the Accolade Industrial Art initiative has 700 square meters. The mural in Park Białystok II is yet another example of cooperation between Jakub Bitka and Łukasz Chwałka. We have created nine such projects altogether, including 5 in Poland and 4 in the Czech Republic.
The latest mural is the biggest addition to our collection. It covers 700 square meters on three different buildings in the Park Białystok II. The mural shows characteristic symbols of the Podlasie region: local animal species and flora and was designed and painted by two renowned mural creators, Jakub Bitka and Łukasz Chwałka. The nature as the central theme reflects Accolade's commitment to ESG values and a responsible approach to the environment that we represent.
‘Białystok holds a special place in Accolade. In 2018 we were the first to open a modern industrial park in the region. Currently we have two fully leased parks in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, with the total area of approximately 80,000 sqm. Also here, in Białystok, we launched the Accolade Industrial Art program in 2021, which resulted in our first mural here. I am delighted that our second park in Białystok has also joined the programme, and that the new mural creatively symbolises our commitment to sustainable development,’ says Jarek Wnuk, managing director at Accolade in Poland.
‘In our design we wanted to create a visual narrative of how the human and natural world intertwine and exist in a symbiosis. The artwork shows the symbolic guardians of Podlasie, the bison and lynx, strolling among people, thus illustrating the harmony between these two realms. Many elements in the mural refer to the region, and I hope each of them, along with the entire piece, will bring joy to the park's employees and visitors alike,’ says Łukasz Chwałek, one of the mural's creators.
‘We found this project extremely challenging, as we were placing the mural across three distinct structures. The artwork was painted on a water cistern, a pumping station building, and a retaining wall, coming together as a cohesive narrative. This unconventional concept required several weeks of preparation and design work, but we were extremely happy with the results,’ says Jakub Bitka, co-author of the mural.
The mural was created as part of the Accolade Industrial Art programme, which also includes educational projects for children and the youth. This is why together with developing the mural we have organised workshops for students from the School and Preschool Complex in Nowy Aleksandrów. In these sessions, young people aged 12-15 learned how to spray-paint murals. The artists shared their knowledge and explained the process of creating artwork and how important art in industrial spaces was. Students also had the opportunity to experiment with this technique themselves, practising spray painting on prepared surfaces.
As part of the Accolade Industrial Art programme, we have created already 9 murals, including 5 in Polish industrial parks: in Białystok, Zielona Góra, Mińsk Mazowiecki and Gorzów Wielkopolski. The first such artwork was created in Białystok in 2021, and the winning project was selected through a competition involving park tenants. All murals in Accolade's industrial parks were developed in collaboration with local communities and artists. The work reflects our values and commitment to environmental protection, emphasising the unique characteristics of individual regions.
