We care about nature together
At Accolade, we place emphasis on respecting nature. That's why, as part of our volunteer day, around twenty colleagues headed to the Vysočina Region to help cultivate a local wetland. Speaking of wetlands, their importance is often overlooked and we at Accolade are trying to change that in the long term! Yet wetlands are of great and under-appreciated importance for the whole ecosystem. They efficiently retain water in the landscape by soaking it up during heavy rainfall and then gradually releasing it. Wetlands also significantly affect the climate. They do so by cooling the air as the water evaporates, returning a significantly reduced amount of greenhouse gases back to the atmosphere.
In the valley of the Světelský stream, our colleagues enjoyed some physical labor while improving irrigation in the area as well as presentations by Jaromír Maštera and Pavel Pokorný on hydrobiology and local fauna. The presentations included a visit to the Horní Mrzatec pond, which is very important among Czech water bodies in terms of water purity and the number of amphibians. And, of course, what would a trip to the countryside be without traditional refreshments and leisure activities. Speaking of activities, the environmental ones are on top of our ESG priority list and we already look forward to the next one!
